Udawalawa Day Tour

Udawalawe National Park is a public demesne on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva  provinces. The demesne was created to give a sanctuary for wild creatures displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, as well as to cover the catchment of the force. The reserve covers 30,821 hectares (119.00 sq mi) of land area and was established on 30 June 1972.
Before the designation of the public demesne, the area was used for shifting civilization (chena husbandry). The growers were gradationally removed once the public demesne was declared. The demesne is 165 km (103 mi) from Colombo. Udawalawe is an important niche for Sri Lankan elephants. It’s a popular sightseer destination and the third most visited demesne in the country.
